Cytochrome P450 phenotyping using the Geneva cocktail improves metabolic capacity prediction in a hospitalized patient population.

Aims: Liver cytochromes (CYPs) play an important role in drug metabolism but display a large interindividual variability resulting both from genetic and environmental factors. Most drug dose adjustment guidelines are based on genetics performed in healthy volunteers. However, hospitalized patients are not only more likely to be the target of new prescriptions and drug treatment modifications than healthy volunteers, but will also be more subject to polypharmacy, drug-drug interactions, or to suffer from disease or inflammation affecting CYP activities.

Background: Implementing appropriate complementary food hygiene practices is essential to lower the incidence of food-borne disease and malnutrition in children. However, this aspect is often overlooked in resource-limited settings, and information regarding these practices is not fully available and is not assessed enough. Factors Associated with Uptake of Routine Measles-Containing Vaccine Doses among Young Children, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia, 2021.

Recommended vaccination at nine months of age with the measles-containing vaccine (MCV1) has been part of Ethiopia's routine immunization program since 1980. A second dose of MCV (MCV2) was introduced in 2019 for children 15 months of age. We examined MCV1 and MCV2 coverage and the factors associated with measles vaccination status.

Occurrence of microplastics in commercial fish species from the Ethiopian rift valley's Lake Hawassa, Ethiopia.

Microplastics (MPs) have recently been detected as emergent pollutants in the Ethiopian rift valley lakes located close to rapidly expanding towns. We provide the first study of MPs ingestion of commercial fish species from Lake Hawassa, Ethiopia: Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). A total of 60 individual fish species was collected from three sampling sites of lake Hawassa in October 2020.

One Health research ethics review processes in African countries: Challenges and opportunities.

One Health research has gained attention over the past few decades due to its potential to improve health challenges across the globe. However, obtaining ethics approvals for timely implementation of One Health research is a challenge in some contexts. Our study was undertaken to describe various challenges faced by researchers, research ethics committees (RECs) and members of regulatory bodies in Africa.
