Article Synopsis
  • Vitamin D-dependent rickets type 1B (VDDR1B) is a genetic disorder caused by CYP2R1 deficiency, leading to severe rickets in infants, which can be treated with vitamin D supplementation.
  • A study involving three adult patients from a multi-consanguineous family revealed they had low 25-OH vitamin D levels years after stopping treatment in adolescence, despite being diagnosed with pseudo-nutritional rickets.
  • The findings suggest that while vitamin D is essential for bone health during infancy and adolescence, its role in preventing osteoporosis in adulthood may be limited.
