Background: Opioids are still being prescribed to manage acute postsurgical pain. Unnecessary opioid prescriptions can lead to addiction and death, as unused tablets are easily diverted.
Methods: To determine whether combination nonopioid analgesics are at least as good as opioid analgesics, a multisite, double-blind, randomized, stratified, noninferiority comparative effectiveness trial was conducted, which examined patient-centered outcomes after impacted mandibular third-molar extraction surgery.
Background: Custom-designed and patient-fitted temporomandibular joint replacement (TMJR) devices are used to manage end-stage temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pathology, distorted bony TMJ architecture, or in patients who have undergone multiple prior failed TMJ surgeries.
Purpose: This study aimed to measure the frequency of revision or replacement over time, estimate the 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rate of implants, and determine what demographic, anatomical, or operative variables may be associated with a device adverse event (AE).
Study Design, Setting, Sample: A prospective cohort study was conducted on consenting adults who could read English, implanted with the TMJ Concepts TMJR prostheses between 2013 and 2015 by private or academic surgeons.

In oral and maxillofacial surgery, the evolution of minimally invasive techniques has revolutionised the management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. At the forefront of this advancement lies TMJ arthroscopy, a procedure that offers a precise approach to diagnosing and treating joint issues. TMJ arthroscopy is indicated in various clinical scenarios where a detailed evaluation and targeted interventions within the TMJ are required to alleviate symptoms, improve joint function, and enhance the overall quality of life of patients suffering from TMJ disorders.

Study Design: For certain condylar fractures, extracorporealization of the condylar segment may be performed via extra-oral vertical ramus osteotomy (EVRO) to facilitate reduction and fixation. This approach can similarly be used for condyle-sparing resection of osteochondromas of the condyle. Due to controversy regarding long-term health of the condyle after extracorporealization, we conducted a retrospective analysis of surgical outcomes.

Degenerative joint disease (DJD), also known as osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and can affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). TMJ DJD is characterized by degradation of the articular cartilage and synovial tissues resulting in characteristic morphologic changes in the underlying bone. DJD can occur at any age, but it is more common in older age groups.
