Value of M-mode echocardiography for non-invasive diagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly.

M-mode echocardiographic studies were performed in 11 patients, most of them adults, with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve, proven by cardiac catheterisation. Typical SAM of the mitral valve was detected by echocardiography in a 71-year-old patient with acute myocardial infarction. The patient showed auscultation signs of IHSS and was digitalized and hypovolemic secondary to diarrhea. Following rehydration and digitalis being discontinued, SAM was no longer seen.

[Conservative and surgical treatment of thoracic aortic aneurysm].

34 patients with aneurysms of the ascending and descending thoracic aorta are analyzed with regard to treatment (surgical, n = 23, or conservative, n = 11) and survival. In 17 patients the aneurysm was true and in 17 dissecting (acute in 3, chronic in 14). Mean age, sex, symptoms, main clinical data and the relation between true and dissecting aneurysm were comparable in both groups.

[Diagnostic value of mitral and septal echocardiographic changes in aortic valve insufficiency].

116 patients with aortic regurgitation of different severity with and without associated valvular lesions were studied with echocardiography. In all cases the diagnosis was proven by cardiac catheterisation. Typical fluttering of the anterior mitral valve leaflet and the interventricular septum were oftener observed with increasing degree of severity of aortic regurgitation.

[Right atrial myxoma as a cardiac emergency. Diagnosis using M-mode and multiscan echocardiography].

A case of right atrial myxoma in a 31 year old female is reported which led to a typical history of syncopal episodes. The importance of echocardiography by two-dimensional multiscan and conventionel single beam techniques for the diagnosis of this disorder is emphasized. Symptomes, diagnosis and clinical course are discussed.
