The collection, processing, and electrochemical analysis of exhaled breath condensate (EBC) from healthy human and animal subjects is reported on. EBC is a biospecimen potentially rich in biomarkers of respiratory disease. The EBC pH was analyzed potentiometrically using a disposable polyaniline (PANI)-modified inkjet-printed (IJP) carbon electrode.

Type three secretion system (TTSS)-competent Pseudomonas aeruginosa expressing soluble promiscuous cyclase, exoenzyme Y (ExoY), generates cyclic nucleotides in pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVECs). Within cells, cyclic nucleotide signals are highly compartmentalized, but these second messengers are also released into the extracellular space. Although agonist stimulation of endogenous adenylyl cyclase (AC) or the presence of ExoY increases cyclic nucleotides, the proportion of the signal that is in the intracellular versus extracellular compartments is unresolved.

The microstructure, Vickers microhardness, and electrochemical properties of an additive manufactured titanium alloy, Ti-5553 (Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr wt %), are reported on. The alloy specimens were fabricated by selective laser melt processing. The surface morphology and electrochemical properties of the as-processed and surface-pretreated (abraded and polished) Ti-5553 specimens were investigated.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is the only approved treatment for presymptomatic infantile globoid cell leukodystrophy (GLD [Krabbe disease]). However, correction of disease is not complete, and outcomes remain poor. Herein we evaluated HSCT, intravenous (IV) adeno-associated virus rh10 vector (AAVrh10) gene therapy, and combination HSCT + IV AAVrh10 in the canine model of GLD.
