We report a case of spontaneous total iris avulsion that occurred during corneal wound hydration following an uneventful phacoemulsification procedure. An 86-year-old woman underwent cataract surgery on her right eye, during which a single-piece acrylic intraocular lens (Bausch and Lomb Akreos Adapt Advanced Optics, Bausch and Lomb Incorporated, Rochester, NY, USA) was implanted in the bag, and the viscoelastic material was removed. During corneal wound hydration, total iris avulsion was observed, with the iris prolapsing out of the anterior chamber through the main wound.

In this work we use standard Hamiltonian-system techniques in order to study the dynamics of three vortices with alternating charges in a confined Bose-Einstein condensate. In addition to being motivated by recent experiments, this system offers a natural vehicle for the exploration of the transition of the vortex dynamics from ordered to progressively chaotic behavior. In particular, it possesses two integrals of motion, the energy (which is expressed through the Hamiltonian H) and the angular momentum L of the system.

Background/aims: To evaluate a community optometrist-delivered postoperative discharge scheme in patients who underwent same day discharge from the hospital eye service (HES) following cataract surgery.

Methods: A service-level agreement (SLA) was agreed between the HES, primary care trust and community optometrists in Cambridgeshire regarding community follow-up after cataract surgery. Patients undergoing uncomplicated surgery with no significant ocular comorbidity were eligible for same day discharge to community optometrists.

The authors report a case of Vogt-Koyonagi-Harada syndrome associated with intracranial meningioma. The authors discuss the HLA-DR4 gene as a common and causative factor in both conditions. This case report draws attention to the possibility of a causative association between intracranial meningioma and Vogt-Koyonagi-Harada syndrome, a rare but potentially blinding condition if not detected and treated early.
