Background: Recently, a new tablet formulation of the widely used HIV protease inhibitor lopinavir/ritonavir was licensed. Here, we present a pilot study of the pharmacokinetics of the new adult tablet formulation taken once daily in children.
Methods: Lopinavir pharmacokinetics of the new adult tablet formulation were evaluated in 15 HIV type-1-infected children between 4 and 15 years of age.
This paper provides an estimation of the lifetime health-care cost of HIV-infected children and an update of the cost-effectiveness of universal HIV-screening of pregnant women in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). During 2003-2005, we collected data concerning the prevalence of newly diagnosed HIV-infected pregnant women in Amsterdam. Also, data on resource utilization and HAART regimen for HIV-infected children was gathered from a national registry.

Although this q12h HAART regimen had potent antiretroviral activity, it was frequently associated with side effects and discontinuation of therapy.

Limited data are available to demonstrate that this increased dose results in adequate exposure to lamivudine in children with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Data were selected from children who were using lamivudine for at least 2 weeks before a full pharmacokinetic (PK) study was conducted.
