Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome and chiari I malformation. A case report and systematic review of the literature.

Introduction: Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS) is a rare congenital condition characterized by vascular malformations, bone abnormalities, and limb overgrowth. The genetic basis of KTS is not fully understood, and the diagnosis relies on clinical features. Its clinical spectrum includes several neurosurgical diagnoses, such as cavernous hemangiomas, arteriovenous fistulas, and Chiari I malformation.

Increased specificity of the "GFAP/UCH-L1" mTBI rule-out test by age dependent cut-offs.

Objectives: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) remains challenging to diagnose effectively in the emergency department. Abbott has developed the "GFAP/UCH-L1" mTBI test, to guide the clinical decision to perform a computed tomography (CT) head scan by ruling out the presence of mTBI. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of the "GFAP/UCH-L1" mTBI test in a Greek cohort and established age-dependent cut-offs.

An Update on Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistulae: Case Series and Systematic Review.

Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae (sDAVFs) are rare entities with delayed diagnosis, potentially dramatic clinical manifestations, and complex management. We aim to present our mini case series and perform an updated systematic review of the usual patient profile, to search for established prognostic factors, to compare the effectiveness and safety of surgical and endovascular intervention, and to discuss trends in therapeutic strategy. We retrospectively collected data from patients treated in our department in the last decade (2014-2024) and we systematically reviewed the literature according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) criteria and searched the PubMed database for relevant articles published in the same period.

The Association Between Obesity and Spontaneous Temporal Bone CSF Leak Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Objective: We undertook a systematic review of the literature with meta-analysis to identify the role of obesity (BMI ≥30) in the patient characteristics presenting with spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid (sCSF) leaks of the lateral skull base and the outcomes of their repair.

Data Sources: A Systematic Review of English Articles using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library.

Review Methods: The research algorithm included the following keywords: "spontaneous CSF leak," "lateral skull base," "temporal bone," "meningocele," "encephalocele," and "otorrhea.

Fibrosarcoma of the heart metastatic to the brain.

A right parietal lobe metastasis of a fibrosarcoma originating in the left atrium of the heart was resected twice in a 33-year-old man. Light microscopy showed lightly packed, pleomorphic spindle cells with abundant collagen production and an alcian blue-positive matrix. Electron microscopy confirmed the fibroblastic character of these cells.
