Arthroscopic observations before and after manipulation of frozen shoulder.

The purpose of this article is to report the arthroscopic findings before and immediately after manipulation for frozen shoulder. Twenty patients were selected for manipulation under general anesthesia after failing to improve with conservative measures in 6 months. The findings showed the joint capsule was difficult to penetrate with the arthroscope cannula and obturator because of the thickness of the capsular tissue.

Osteochondritis dissecans of the knee: arthroscopic compression screw fixation.

This article describes repair of osteochondritis dissecans of the knee by arthroscopic compression screw fixation and reports the healing response and clinical result. Diagnostic and operative arthroscopy was performed. Compression screw fixation was used.

Clinical assessment of atlantoaxial instability using the Sharp-Purser test.

Anterior atlantoaxial subluxation is common in rheumatoid arthritis patients with involvement of the cervical spine. Sharp and Purser have described a test for the clinical assessment of this instability. We assessed the validity of the Sharp-Purser test in 123 outpatients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Management of civilian gunshot fractures of the extremities.

One hundred thirty-two gunshot fractures of the extremities in 126 patients were studied retrospectively and followed until clinical union from January 1980 to January 1985. Civilian handgun missile velocities have increased; should the trend continue, treatment protocols will need to be modified. All uncomplicated low-velocity gunshot fractures, less than 615 m/second, (2000 feet/second), can be managed conservatively, with superficial debridement, surgical cleansing, immobilization, and antibiotics.
