Metal ions are well-known cofactors of protein function and stability. In the case of the integral membrane enzyme OmpLA (outer membrane phospholipase A) the active dimer is stabilized by calcium ions. We studied the lipid hydrolysis kinetics of OmpLA in charge-neutral and charged membranes with symmetric or asymmetric transbilayer lipid distributions.

Small-angle X-ray and neutron scattering (SAXS/SANS) techniques excel in unveiling intricate details of the internal structure of lipid membranes under physiologically relevant temperature and buffer conditions, all without the need to resort to bulky labels. By concurrently conducting and analyzing neutron and X-ray data, these methods harness the complete spectrum of contrast and resolution from various components constituting lipid membranes. Despite this, the literature exhibits only a sparse presence of applications compared to other techniques in membrane biophysics.

Aims: Low-grade non-intestinal-type sinonasal adenocarcinoma (LGSNAC) is a rare heterogeneous and poorly characterised group of tumours, distinct from intestinal- and salivary-type neoplasms. Therefore, further characterisation is needed for clearer biological understanding and classification.

Methods And Results: Clinical, histological and molecular characterisation of four cases of biphasic, low-grade adenocarcinomas of the sinonasal tract was performed.

Over the past decades, advances in lipid nanotechnology have shown that self-assembled lipid structures providing ease of preparation, chemical stability, and biocompatibility represent a landmark on the development of multidisciplinary technologies. Lipid nanotubes (LNTs) are a unique class of lipid self-assembled structures, bearing unique properties such as high-aspect ratio, tunable diameter size, and precise molecular recognition. They can be obtained either by the action of external factors to already formed vesicles or spontaneously, the latter depending strongly on subtle molecular features.
