Case report: 49, XXXXY syndrome and high myopia.

49, XXXXY karyotype syndrome has been thought of as a variant of Klinefelter's syndrome. It has an incidence of between 1/85 000 to 1/100 000 live births. Typical clinical features include coarse faces, skeletal abnormalities, hypogenitalism and severe learning difficulties.

Behçet's syndrome: a multidisciplinary approach to clinical care.

Behçet's syndrome is a multisystem disorder characterized by recurrent orogenital ulceration and an occlusive vasculitis. Histologically, there is a combination of a perivascular lymphocytic infiltration with endothelial cell damage coupled with a pro-thrombotic tendency. We present a multidisciplinary approach to the management of Behçet's syndrome, and compare our findings with other published studies.

Carotid artery Doppler ultrasonography in retinal macroaneurysms.

It is postulated that retinal arterial macroaneurysms (RAMs) occur at the site of incomplete embolic occlusion of a branch retinal artery. Embolic events of the retinal vessels are related to the state of the carotid artery tree and therefore Doppler ultrasonography of the carotid arteries in these patients is of particular interest. We have examined 13 patients with retinal artery macroaneurysms with carotid artery Doppler ultrasonography (CADU).

Polyarthropathy, orbital myositis and posterior scleritis: an unusual adverse reaction to influenza vaccine.

We report a patient who developed an acute symmetrical polyarthropathy, orbital myositis and posterior scleritis following inoculation with the 1993 Fluvirin (inactivated influenza vaccine: surface antigen) vaccine. We believe that this represents a hypersensitivity reaction to the vaccine as extensive investigations revealed no underlying infective, inflammatory or systemic cause. We review the current indications for vaccination against the influenza virus and the known adverse reactions to the vaccine.
