Adult patients with congenital heart disease (ACHD) requiring heart transplantation (HT) usually show complex anatomies, posing surgical challenges. Consequently, we analyzed technical aspects and early and long-term outcomes of additional surgical repairs during HT in ACHD. Forty patients were identified (23 males, median age: 38 years, interquartile range [IQR]: 26-50).

: Malnutrition is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in patients who undergo cardiac surgery. Nevertheless, objective assessment of malnourished patients undergoing heart transplantation (HT) is limited. We aimed to analyze the relationship between the malnutrition status and the early and late clinical outcomes of patients undergoing HT using a novel semi-quantitative tool.

Article Synopsis
  • F nuclei are useful for monitoring protein interactions in NMR spectroscopy.
  • While methods exist to add fluorine to proteins, techniques for mammalian cells are lacking.
  • This study introduces an affordable method to create fluorotryptophan for use in proteins, specifically in carbonic anhydrase 2 and superoxide dismutase, using HEK cell expression.

Juvenile onset systemic sclerosis is a rare chronic multisystem connective tissue disease characterized by skin induration, microangiopathy, autoimmune disturbances and widespread fibrosis of internal organs. Primary cardiac involvement in systemic sclerosis (SSc) is associated with a variable phenotype, including heart failure and arrhythmias, which lead to poor short-term prognosis. Isolated heart transplantation is a rare approach for the treatment of advanced heart failure in patients with systemic sclerosis.

Heavy metal contamination increases plant susceptibility to both biotic and abiotic stresses. However, the comprehensive impact of heavy metal pollution on plant hydraulics, which is crucial for plant productivity, and the interaction between heavy metal stress and environmental factors on plant health are not yet fully understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of cadmium exposure on plant-water relations and hydraulics of Solanum lycopersicum L.
