The bacterial cell wall maintains cell shape and protects against bursting by turgor. A major constituent of the cell wall is peptidoglycan (PG), which is continuously modified to enable cell growth and differentiation through the concerted activity of biosynthetic and hydrolytic enzymes. Streptomycetes are Gram-positive bacteria with a complex multicellular life style alternating between mycelial growth and the formation of reproductive spores.

Conventional methods to measure ligand-receptor binding parameters typically require radiolabeled ligands as probes. Despite the robustness of radioligand binding assays, they carry inherent disadvantages in terms of safety precautions, expensive synthesis, special lab requirements, and waste disposal. Mass spectrometry (MS) is a method that can selectively detect ligands without the need of a label.

There is no cure once the disease is diagnosed, but early treatment at a sub-clinical stage can prevent or at least halt the progression. DKD is clinically diagnosed as abnormally high urinary albumin excretion rate (AER).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) - ion trap mass spectrometry method was developed for separation of a wide range of phospholipids. A diol column which is often used with normal phase chromatography was adapted to separate different phospholipid classes in HILIC mode using a mobile phase system consisting of acetonitrile, water, ammonium formate and formic acid. An efficient between-class separation of seven phospholipid classes including phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinostol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, sphingomyelin and lysophosphatidylcholine was successfully achieved within 14 min using a gradient elution which starts with 90% of organic solvent and ends with 70% of organic solvent.

The first selective cannabinoid-1 receptor blocker rimonabant, an anorectic anti-obesity drug, was frequently used in conjunction with diet and exercise for patients with a body mass index greater than 30 kg/m(2) with associated risk factors such as type II diabetes and dyslipidaemia in the past. Less is known about the impact of this drug on the regulation of lipid metabolism in plasma and liver in the early stage of obesity.
