Article Synopsis
  • POEMS syndrome is a rare condition caused by problems in plasma cells and has five main features: nerve issues, organ enlargement, hormone problems, a specific type of protein in the blood, and skin changes.
  • In a study that included 46 patients from Latin America, researchers found that all had nerve problems, and many had skin changes and organ enlargement, with a median time of 7.7 months to get diagnosed.
  • The survival rate for patients was really good, with all patients who had a transplant still alive, suggesting that treatment in Latin America is effective and similar to other parts of the world.

Background: Cutoff thresholds for the "resting full-cycle ratio" (RFR) oscillate in different series, suggesting that population characteristics may influence them. Likewise, predictors of discordance between the RFR and fractional flow reserve (FFR) have been documented. The RECOPA Study showed that diagnostic capacity is reduced in the RFR "grey zone", requiring the performance of FFR to rule out or confirm ischemia.

A series of MgO-based adsorbents were prepared through solution-combustion synthesis and ball-milling process. The prepared MgO-based powders were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, N physisorption measurements, and employed as potential adsorbents for CO adsorption. The influence of structural and textural properties of these adsorbents over the CO adsorption behaviour was also investigated.

Neuroblasts represent the predominant migrating cell type in the adult mouse brain. There are, however, increasing evidences of migration of other neural precursors. This work aims at identifying in vivo endogenous early neural precursors, different from neuroblasts, able to migrate in response to brain injuries.
