Progressive cardiac arrhythmias and ECG abnormalities in the Huntington's disease BACHD mouse model.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disease. There is accumulating evidence that HD patients have increased prevalence of conduction abnormalities and compromised sinoatrial node function which could lead to increased risk for arrhythmia. We used mutant Huntingtin (mHTT) expressing bacterial artificial chromosome Huntington's disease mice to determine if they exhibit electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities involving cardiac conduction that are known to increase risk of sudden arrhythmic death in humans.

Novel biomanufacturing platform for large-scale and high-quality human T cells production.

The adoptive transfer of human T cells or genetically-engineered T cells with cancer-targeting receptors has shown tremendous promise for eradicating tumors in clinical trials. The objective of this study was to develop a novel T cell biomanufacturing platform using stirred-tank bioreactor for large-scale and high-quality cellular production. First, various factors, such as bioreactor parameters, media, supplements, stimulation, seed age, and donors, were investigated.

Neopterin: a prognostic variable in operations for lung cancer.

Background: We studied the prognostic value of preoperatively measured neopterin to predict survival of lung cancer patients. Neopterin is produced and secreted by interferon-gamma-stimulated monocytic cells. High urinary neopterin concentrations are found in patients with viral infections, allograft rejection episodes, and some malignant diseases.

Pulmonary Aspergillus colonization in humans and its impact on management of critically ill patients.

Samples of lung tissues were obtained and analysed for Aspergillus carriage in 56 patients undergoing thoracic surgical intervention and 18 people who had an unexpected death. Out of 74 samples, 46 (63%) had evidence of pulmonary fungal colonization. The surgery population had a rate of 62% of fungal growth.

Long-term results of surgery for adenoid cystic carcinoma of the trachea and bronchi.

Aims: Over a period of 26 years, 16 patients (9 women, 7 men) underwent surgery for primary adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the trachea and bronchi. The median age at diagnosis was 41.4 years (range 25-67).
