Sex, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity Measurement in Health Research: A Systematic Review and Narrative Synthesis.

Toward the goal of developing standardized sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity (SSOGI) measures that can be used across demographics and regions, this review aimed to synthesize and summarize how SSOGI have been assessed within health research, including the quality and validity of these measures. We conducted a systematic review of peer-reviewed research developing or evaluating SSOGI measures in PubMed, PsycInfo, CINAHL, and Health and Psychosocial Instruments bibliographic databases. Eligible studies reported original peer-reviewed research focused on SSOGI measurement in adult populations in the United States from 2012 through June 7, 2022.

Tackle Characteristics Resulting in Potential Head Injuries in Elite Men's Rugby League: A Video Analysis Study of 746 Tackles.

Objectives: Contact with the head should be avoided during a rugby league tackle, given the inherent risks of head injuries. This study aimed to characterise a sample of tackles, retrospectively identified as resulting in a potential head injury by the Rugby Football League (RFL) match review panel.

Design: Retrospective video analysis study.

Heat stress in chickens induces temporal changes in the cecal microbiome concomitant with host enteric serotonin responses.

Heat stress is a potent modulator of the avian neuroendocrine system with concomitant impact on the gut microbiome. As an interkingdom signaling molecule, serotonin is largely derived from the gut and found in large concentrations in the avian gut lumen. Despite the role of serotonin in animal stress physiology and related host-microbe interactions, whether heat stress alters avian enteric concentrations of serotonin is unknown.

Automated tools for systematic review screening methods: an application of machine learning for sexual orientation and gender identity measurement in health research.

Objective: Sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations experience health disparities compared to heterosexual and cisgender populations. The development of accurate, comprehensive sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) measures is fundamental to quantify and address SGM disparities, which first requires identifying SOGI-related research. As part of a larger project reviewing and synthesizing how SOGI has been assessed within the health literature, we provide an example of the application of automated tools for systematic reviews to the area of SOGI measurement.
