The complex sequential response of frustrated materials results from the interactions between material bits called hysterons. Hence, a central challenge is to understand and control these interactions, so that materials with targeted pathways and functionalities can be realized. Here, we show that hysterons in serial configurations experience geometrically controllable antiferromagnetic-like interactions.

An international survey was conducted to provide insights into current practices related to vocal health among amateur and professional voice users. Vocalists of various genres completed an online survey related to their practice in seeking medical care for vocal health concerns, and their preferences for the type of medical help they seek. Specific vocal symptoms or conditions which the subjects feel would warrant evaluation was also queried, as well as their preference for voice use and management should laryngeal pathology be diagnosed during a medical examination.

Four cases of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid gland are reported. Thorough evaluation confirmed these lesions to be of primary thyroid origin rather than from metastasis or direct invasion from contiguous structures. These cases illustrate the aggressive nature of the disease and the propensity for local and distant metastases.

A technique utilizing the midfacial degloving approach in the repair of nasal septal perforations in 24 patients is reported. The midface degloving approach was limited to patients with septal perforations greater than 3 cm and failed prior attempts at surgical closure. Bilateral posteriorly based unipedicled flaps were utilized in the septal closure.
