Introduction: Leg length is an important consideration in total hip arthroplasty (THA) as leg length discrepancies (LLD) after THA cause poor outcomes and medical litigation. This study aimed to investigate the accuracy of computed tomography (CT)-based navigation with augmented reality (AR) technology for measuring intra-operative leg length change using anteroposterior radiography (two-dimensional, 2D) and CT (three-dimensional, 3D).

Materials And Methods: This study included 71 patients (75 hips) who underwent primary cementless THA in the supine position between June 2022 and November 2023 using the HoloNavi One.

Transition-metal oxyhydrides are an emerging class of functional materials; however, the known compounds have mostly been limited to perovskite-type sturctures. Here, we successfully synthesized LiNbHO, the first example of a rock-salt-type transition-metal oxyhydride, using mechanochemical methods. Galvanostatic charge/discharge tests revealed that LiNbHO functions as an electrode for lithium secondary batteries.

Aims: To compare the predictive abilities of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-corrected BMI (wBMI), a body shape index (ABSI), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) for the incidence of type 2 diabetes and determine the practical cut-off values for the Japanese population.

Methods: This study used data from 155,623 participants who had medical checkups with Panasonic Corporation between 2008 and 2021. Predictive abilities of anthropometric indices were evaluated at 13 years using time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed the microbiome and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soy sauce moromi during fermentation and aging, revealing a diverse bacterial community initially dominated by Staphylococcus and Bacillus before transitioning to Tetragenococcus.
  • The fungal community was initially simple, primarily consisting of Aspergillus, but became more diverse after the addition of Zygosaccharomyces rouxii on day 42, introducing new dominant species.
  • The VOC profile evolved significantly during fermentation, with certain fungi showing positive correlations to the production of alcohols, esters, and phenols, suggesting their important role in developing the complex aroma of soy sauce.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how royal jelly (RJ) affects epigenomic changes in the small intestine, with a focus on its impact on metabolic health.
  • RJ administration showed improvements in insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism without altering body weight, indicating its potential benefits for metabolic disorders.
  • The research identified significant alterations in histone modifications linked to genes involved in cancer progression and metabolism, suggesting that RJ could serve as a therapeutic agent for enhancing metabolic health.
