Maternal and/or perinatal death review or audits aim to improve the quality of health services and reduce deaths due to causes identified. A death review audit cycle identifies causes of deaths and possible modifiable factors, these can point to potential breaks in the continuity of health care and other health systems faults and challenges. It is an important function of audit cycles to develop, implement, monitor, and review action plans to improve the service.

Substantial empirical evidence indicates, however, that animals may adapt their interaction rules depending on a variety of factors and social contexts. Here, we hypothesized that leadership performance is linked to the leader's responsiveness to the follower's actions and we predicted that a leader is followed longer if it adapts to the follower's avoidance movements.

Despite a 17% overall reduction in maternal deaths in South Africa between 2011 and 2016, there was a 14% increase in deaths due to hypertension. Delivery is the only known cure for pre-eclampsia, but the question regarding the safest route of delivery remains difficult to answer.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: To assess the incidence of severe maternal outcome (SMO), comprising maternal mortality (MM) and maternal near miss (MNM), in Metro East health district, Western Cape Province, South Africa between November 2014 and November 2015 and to identify associated determinants leading to SMO with the aim to improve maternity care.
Methods: Region-wide population-based case-control study. Women were included in the study, if they were maternal deaths or met MNM criteria, both as defined by WHO.
Oral emergency contraceptives do not appear to be as effective as the copper IUD as an emergency contraceptive. There is as yet no estimation of the relative efficacy rates rather than the failure rates. The references for this study were obtained by entering the terms "intrauterine device" "and "emergency contraception" in Medline, PubMed, Popline, Global Health and ClinicalTrials.
