SIMP suggests a flow-chart built up on clear concepts such as right and well managed antibiotic therapy, sound stability of the spine, correct and smart use of the standard and functional imaging techniques, such as f18 FDG PET/CT.

In Italy, serological screening is recommended to prevent congenital toxoplasmosis as part of the antenatal care protocol. Our study investigates (1) adherence to screening among Italian and migrant women and (2) specific T. gondii seroprevalence among hospitalized puerperas in Brescia and Udine, in northern Italy.

We report a visceral leishmaniasis case in an immunocompetent immigrant with acute renal failure. Parasites were demonstrated in bone marrow, peripheral blood, and kidney samples. A collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis was documented, which was successfully treated with a single infusion of 10 mg/kg liposomal amphotericin B.
