Influencing Factors of Survival in Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Cancer.

This study examined the effects of various factors on survival in hypopharyngeal cancer, involving a total of 100 patients. Comorbidities, treatment modalities, survival times, and potential factors affecting survival were retrospectively analysed. The expression of p16 was also examined.

Management of Odontogenic Sinusitis: Results with Single-Step FESS and Dentoalveolar Surgery.

Objective: Odontogenic sinusitis (OS) is a well-known and important border of specialties in otorhinolaryngology and dentoalveolar surgery. [Hearing rehabilitation in postmeningitis deafness in the context of the time factor].

Introduction: Postmeningitis deafness appears in 0-11% of the meningitis cases. Cochlear ossification can develop in these patients, which may make the hearing rehabilitation impossible with cochlear implantation. Due to ossification, it is critical to refer patients to the implant centre without any delay.

[Reconstruction with hypopharyngo-gastrostomy after esophagus extirpation due to spontaneous esophageal perforation].

Despite the significant improvement in surgical and intensive care therapy, esophageal perforation is still a severe, life-threatening condition. As the underlying causes, the accompanying disorders, the localization and the extent of the inflammation vary, the surgeon may sometimes encounter unexpected situations. A 58-year-old female developed necrotizing mediastinitis due to esophageal perforation as the result of incarcerated thoracic hernia of the stomach, therefore, we had to perform esophagus extirpation and cervical esophagostomy.

Cochlear implantation under local anesthesia: a possible alternative for elderly patients.

Introduction: As average life-expectancy increases, a sufficient hearing rehabilitation for elderly patients with severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss becomes more important. Cochlear implantation is a relatively safe surgical procedure also for elderly patients, the higher risk is caused by general anesthesia. We report on four patients who underwent cochlear implantation under local anesthesia.
