The perioperative surgical home (PSH) is a care delivery model designed to improve the perioperative and long-term outcomes of patients undergoing surgery by promoting holistic care and seamless cooperation between different services and subspecialties. An aging population and increased surgical complexity have led to renewed interest in PSH models. An 86-year-old female with diabetes and critical limb ischemia presented with sepsis due to right calcaneal gangrene.

Methods: Outcomes of patients with localized prostate cancer undergoing robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy were examined before and after implementation of novel quality improvement study that included receiving buprenorphine compared to conventional opioids for pain control intraoperatively and postoperatively. The primary end point was adequate pain control with secondary end points being analgesic consumption at home, opioid-related side effects, and patient satisfaction.
DDX RNA helicases promote RNA processing, but DDX3X also activates casein kinase 1 (CK1ε). We show that other DDX proteins also stimulate the protein kinase activity of CK1ε and that this extends to casein kinase 2 (CK2). CK2 enzymatic activity was stimulated by various DDX proteins at high substrate concentrations.

Background: The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) case log system for anesthesiology resident training relies on subjective categorization of surgical procedures and lacks clear guidelines for assigning credit roles. Therefore, resident reporting practices likely vary within and between institutions. Our primary aim was to develop a systematic process for generating automated case logs using data elements extracted from the electronic health care record.

PMTs work as dimers and contain a luminal MIR domain with a β-trefoil fold, which is susceptive for missense mutations causing α-dystroglycanopathies in humans. Here, we analyze PMT-MIR domains by an integrated structural biology approach using X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy and evaluate their role in PMT function in vivo.
