In the last year, the Italian National Health Service as a whole and the Nephrology community have been severely challenged by the pandemic. It has been a dramatic stress test for the entire healthcare system, not only in Italy but worldwide. The general organization of our Nephrology units and our models of care were put under extreme pressure, and we had to quickly adopt unprecedented clinical practice recommendations and organizational models to overcome the impasse caused by the pandemic.
