The multifaceted role of vitreous hyalocytes: Orchestrating inflammation, angiomodulation and erythrophagocytosis in proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Background: Despite great advances in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) therapy over the last decades, one third of treated patients continue to lose vision. While resident vitreous macrophages called hyalocytes have been implicated in the pathophysiology of vitreoretinal proliferative disease previously, little is known about their exact role in PDR. In this study, we address molecular and cellular alterations in the vitreous of PDR patients as a means towards assessing the potential contribution of hyalocytes to disease pathogenesis.

A Multicomponent Microneedle Patch for the Delivery of Meloxicam for Veterinary Applications.

This study evaluates the use of poly(vinyl alcohol), collagen, and chitosan blends for developing a microneedle patch for the delivery of meloxicam (MEL). Results confirm successful MEL encapsulation, structural integrity, and chemical stability even after ethylene oxide sterilization. Mechanical testing indicates the patch has the required properties for effective skin penetration and drug delivery, as demonstrated by load-displacement curves showing successful penetration of pig ear surfaces at 3N of normal load.

Outpatient follow-up of tumour diseases through video-based value-oriented behavioural activation (ViVA): study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

Background: In Germany, approximately half a million people are diagnosed with cancer annually; this can be traumatic and lead to depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders necessitating psycho-oncological intervention. Value-oriented behavioural activation, adopted from depression psychotherapy, aims to provide structured support to help patients adjust their personal values, goals, and activities within the context of their changed life situation. This trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of video-based value-oriented behavioural activation against German S3-Guideline-compliant aftercare for cancer patients dealing with psychological distress.

Seroconversion after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is protective against severe COVID-19 disease in heart transplant recipients.

Background: Heart transplant (HTX) recipients are prone to develop complications after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Vaccination is often ineffective due to weaker immunogenicity. In this high-volume single-center study, we aimed to determine factors influencing seroconversion after vaccination and predictors of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Investigation of the effect of rifampicin resistance and risk factors on recovery rates after DAIR procedure in patients with prosthetic joint infection.

Background: Rifampicin plays a key role in the management of prosthetic joint infections (PJIs), however, the emergence of rifampicin resistance is associated with less favourable clinical outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of rifampicin resistance and other patient-related factors on recovery rates among patients with PJI undergoing debridement, antibiotics and implant retention (DAIR).

Methods: We reviewed medical records and microbiology reports of 67 patients (37 males and 30 females) undergoing DAIR due to PJI between 2014 and 2021.
