Rhinosporidiosis, an infectious granulomatous disease, is seldom encountered in the United States. We present a case of rhinosporidiosis in a 26-year-old man, who presented with an unusual mass in his nasal cavity. Suspicion for rhinosporidiosis was high due to the patient's travel and activity history.

Relative deprivation: a theoretical and meta-analytic review.

Relative deprivation (RD) is the judgment that one is worse off compared to some standard accompanied by feelings of anger and resentment. Social scientists use RD to predict a wide range of significant outcome variables: collective action, individual achievement and deviance, intergroup attitudes, and physical and mental health. But the results are often weak and inconsistent.

Telephone use and understanding in patients with cochlear implants.

We conducted a mail survey ofpatients who had received cochlear implants to ascertain their ability to communicate on the telephone. Of 86 patients who responded, 38 (44%) did not use the telephone at all, 36 (42%) were able to use the telephone without assistance (independent users), and 12 (14%) were able to use the telephone with some type of assistance. Factors associated with independent use were male sex, older age at the onset of hearing loss, longer duration of hearing loss, successful use of hearing aids prior to cochlear implantation, implantation with a MED-EL Combi 40+ device, and a shorter duration of implant use.
