Community pharmacy advanced adherence services for children and young people with long-term conditions: A cross-sectional survey study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the provision of community pharmacy services to children and young people with a focus on advanced services such as medicines use review. Perceptions and experiences of community pharmacists, pharmacy staff, young people and their parents or carers on the provision of such services were also explored.

Methods: Four different cross-sectional, self-administered questionnaires were distributed in parallel to pharmacists, pharmacy staff members, children and young people and parents in the United Kingdom.

Electron conductive and proton permeable vertically aligned carbon nanotube membranes.

We report the fabrication of membranes hundreds of micrometers thick that demonstrate efficient electron conduction and proton transport through vertically aligned arrays of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (NTs) impregnated by epoxy. Electrical transport was Ohmic with a conductivity of 495 mS cm(-1). Protons traversed the membrane through the NT bore with a current of 5.

Epistaxis management at Guy's Hospital, 2009-2011: full audit cycles.

Objective: To assess management of epistaxis at a tertiary ENT referral hospital against a recently published standard of best practice.

Methods: Fifty consecutive cases of acute epistaxis that required admission to Guy's Hospital in 2009 were evaluated. Epistaxis education sessions were held to introduce our algorithm of best practice in tandem with an emphasis on emergency department care.

Development of isoform selective PI3-kinase inhibitors as pharmacological tools for elucidating the PI3K pathway.

Using a parallel synthesis approach to target a non-conserved region of the PI3K catalytic domain a pan-PI3K inhibitor 1 was elaborated to provide alpha, delta and gamma isoform selective Class I PI3K inhibitors 21, 24, 26 and 27. The compounds had good cellular activity and were selective against protein kinases and other members of the PI3K superfamily including mTOR and DNA-PK.

A meta-analysis on the effectiveness of propranolol for the treatment of infantile airway haemangiomas.

Objective: To study the effectiveness of propranolol in infantile airway haemangiomas and compare the effectiveness of propranolol vs. different therapies.

Methods: A literature search of Ovid, Embase, the Cochrane database, Google™ Scholar, and Medline using PubMed as the search engine was performed to identify studies that analysed the effect of propranolol treatment in children with airway haemangiomas.
