Vorinostat [suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA)], a histone deacetylase inhibitor, shows limited clinical activity against solid tumors when used alone. The methyl xanthine drug, pentoxifylline (PENT), has been described to have antitumor properties. The aim of this study was to look for the enhanced anticancer activities of both agents when used in combination at doses lower than their respective efficacy dose when used alone.

Atorvastatin is a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme-A reductase inhibitor used in the treatment of atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia. Studies have evaluated the utility of statins in the treatment of skin inflammation but with varied results. In the present study, we investigated the effect of atorvastatin on TNF-α release and keratinocyte proliferation in vitro and in acute and chronic 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) induced skin inflammation in vivo.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the selective inhibition of HDAC6 using Tubastatin, which shows promise in treating autoimmune and inflammatory diseases by modulating inflammatory cell functions.
  • Tubastatin effectively reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 in macrophage models, demonstrating its potential as a therapeutic agent with minimal toxicity.
  • In animal models of inflammation and arthritis, Tubastatin significantly decreases disease symptoms and inflammatory markers, indicating its effectiveness compared to traditional treatments like dexamethasone.

A protocol is presented for efficient transformation and regeneration of cotton. Embryogenic calli co-cultivated with Agrobacterium carrying cry1Ia5 gene were cultured under dehydration stress and antibiotic selection for 3-6 weeks to generate several transgenic embryos. An average of 75 globular embryo clusters were observed on selection plates and these embryos were cultured on multiplication medium followed by development of cotyledonary embryos on embryo maturation medium to obtain an average of 12 plants per Petri plate of co-cultivated callus.
