[On the problem of forensic medical prophylaxis].

The authors summarize the experience with the participation of forensic medical experts in reducing the crime rise, prophylaxis of socially significant pathologies (such as drug addiction, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, oncological diseases, HIV infection) and improvement of health services to the population as exemplified by the activities of the specialists of Sankt-Peterburg Bureau of Forensic Medical Expertise. The special emphasis is laid on the role of the city's therapeutic and prophylactic facilities in this work and up-to-date high-tech laboratory and special investigations.

[Forensic medical assessment of hemorrhages].

Experiments were carried out to study the possibility and conditions of postmortem hemorrhage with special reference to the victims of blunt trauma. Comparative morphological characteristics of resulting injuries are exemplified. Cases of postmortem bleeding following gunshot wounds are described.

[The organization of the work of military forensic medical experts in identifying the dead in an area of armed conflict].

The authors summarize the experience of work of legal physicians in identification of servicemen who have perished on the territory of Chechnya. The article contains data concerning the methods of classification of non-identified cadavers in three identification groups and gives a scientifically substantiated system of pre-identification preparation of cadavers. A number of problematic questions which need its further solution are raised.
