Confirmed Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis and COVID-19: the value of postmortem findings to support antemortem management.

We present postmortem evidence of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in a patient with severe COVID-19. Autopsies of COVID-19 confirmed cases were performed. The patient died despite antimicrobials, mechanical ventilation, and vasopressor support.

Does Parkinson's disease interfere with electromyographic fatigue of masticatory muscles?

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease with manifestations related to oxidative stress and damage to the skeletal striated musculature. This study evaluated the electromyographic fatigue of the masseter and temporal muscles in individuals with Parkinson's disease. The median frequency of the normotensive electromyographic signal was analyzed in 16 individuals, aged between 50 and 70 years, with Parkinson's disease in stages I and III of the Hoehn and Yahr disability scale (n=8) or without the disease (n=8).

Topical diltiazem before transrectal ultrasonography-guided biopsy of the prostate: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Injection of local anaesthetic agents around the prostatic nerve bundles during transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) biopsy of the prostate has shown to reduce the pain associated with the procedure. It has been shown that some of the discomfort associated with the procedure is secondary to spasm of the anal sphincter. Topical diltiazem can relax the anal sphincter.

Effect of thymoquinone on ethanol and high fat diet induced chronic pancreatitis--a dose response study in rats.

A significant increase in serum lipase, amylase, capase-1 and myeloperoxidase activities, oxidative stress index (OSI), IL-1beta and IL-18 was observed in rats receiving ethanol (EtOH) and high fat diet (HFD). Thymoquinone (TQ) supplementation along with EtOH and HFD significantly decreased the levels of serum lipase, amylase, capase-1, myeloperoxidase, OSI and maintained the antioxidant status when compared to untreated EtOH and HFD fed rats. Among the 4 doses, 100 mg of TQ/kg body weight was found to provide optimum protective effect on pancreas against EtOH and HFD induced abnormal changes.

Fisetin, a novel flavonol attenuates benzo(a)pyrene-induced lung carcinogenesis in Swiss albino mice.

Lung cancer is the foremost cause of cancer mortality and is a growing economic burden worldwide. Fisetin (3,7,3',4'-tetrahydroxyflavone), a naturally occurring flavonoid is found in vegetables and fruits possesses anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative effects in a wide variety of cancer. In the present study it is hypothesized that fisetin may provide chemopreventive as well as chemotherapeutic effects against experimental lung carcinogenesis.
