Can a novel computer vision-based framework detect head-on-head impacts during a rugby league tackle?

Background: Head-on-head impacts are a risk factor for concussion, which is a concern for sports. Computer vision frameworks may provide an automated process to identify head-on-head impacts, although this has not been applied or evaluated in rugby.

Methods: This study developed and evaluated a novel computer vision framework to automatically classify head-on-head and non-head-on-head impacts.

Social Determinants of Health and Healthcare Access among Latina/x/o Sexual and Gender Minority Adults.

Purpose: This study aims to identify current social determinants of health (SDOH) and healthcare access barriers impacting health outcomes among Latina, Latinx, and Latino (Latina/x/o) sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals.

Methods: We conducted cross-sectional surveys of 521 Latina/x/o adults with a focus on SGM individuals from November 2022 to June 2023 in Cook County, IL. We recruited using social media groups and in person community venues geared towards Latina/x/o and/or Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Questioning (LGBTQ+) individuals.

Understanding uptake of the COVID-19 vaccination among the homeless: A mixed methods evaluation.

Background: Ensuring effective access to vaccinations for people experiencing homelessness is crucial to protecting the health of a vulnerable, yet often overlooked population. Reaching this goal takes more than a one size fits all approach. This study evaluates how a dedicated health team collaborated with multiple agencies to register and deliver the COVID-19 vaccine to people experiencing homelessness.

The ambiguous role of partially protected marine protected areas in Australia: Results from a systematic literature review.

Marine protected areas (MPAs) are an important tool in helping to protect biodiversity in the oceans. Recent ratification of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) has ensured that globally we are committed to effectively protecting 30% of the world's oceans by 2030, in MPAs. In Australia there is considerable interest in the potential benefits that partially protected areas (PPAs) may provide.

Impact of the XVII Pacific Games on the National Referral Hospital Emergency Department, Solomon Islands.

Background: The XVII Pacific Games was held in Honiara, Solomon Islands in 2023 and was attended by competitors from 24 Pacific nations. The National Referral Hospital (NRH) is the sole tertiary hospital and largest emergency department (ED) in the Solomon Islands, located in the capital city, Honiara, and was the designated referral hospital for the Pacific Games.

Objective: This report documents the lessons learnt from supporting a large international sporting event within a resource-limited health setting, and may help other EDs prepare for similar planned mass gatherings.
