Exploring Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato biofilm-like aggregate formation in susceptible and PTI-responding Arabidopsis thaliana.

Bacterial biofilm-like aggregates have been observed in plants, but their role in pathogenicity is underinvestigated. In the present study, we observed that extracellular DNA and polysaccharides colocalized with green fluorescent protein (GFP)-expressing Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato (Pst) aggregates in Arabidopsis leaves, suggesting that Pst aggregates are biofilms.

An epitaxial graphene platform for zero-energy edge state nanoelectronics.

Graphene's original promise to succeed silicon faltered due to pervasive edge disorder in lithographically patterned deposited graphene and the lack of a new electronics paradigm. Here we demonstrate that the annealed edges in conventionally patterned graphene epitaxially grown on a silicon carbide substrate (epigraphene) are stabilized by the substrate and support a protected edge state. The edge state has a mean free path that is greater than 50 microns, 5000 times greater than the bulk states and involves a theoretically unexpected Majorana-like zero-energy non-degenerate quasiparticle that does not produce a Hall voltage.

Implementation of a Modified Bedside Handoff for a Postpartum Unit.

The most frequent cause of sentinel events is poor communication during the nurse-to-nurse handoff process. Standardized methods of handoff do not fit in every patient care setting. The aims of this quality improvement project were to successfully implement a modified bedside handoff model, with some report outside and some inside the patient's room, in a postpartum unit.

Postsurgical treatment of early-stage breast cancer with electronic brachytherapy: outcomes and health-related quality of life at 1 year.

Objectives: This multicenter registry followed up patients with early-stage breast cancer treated with breast-conserving surgery and electronic brachytherapy (EBT). This report provides 1- and 2-year updates to the initial publication.

Methods: Patients were of age 50 years or more with invasive carcinoma or ductal carcinoma in situ, tumor size ≤3 cm, and negative surgical margins.
