Social Investment Policies and Childbearing Across 20 Countries: Longitudinal and Micro-Level Analyses.

This study analyses the influence of family policies on women's first and second births in 20 countries over the period 1995 to 2007. Welfare states have shifted towards social investment policies, yet family policy-fertility research has not explicitly considered this development. We distinguish between social investment-oriented and passive support that families may receive upon the birth of a child and consider changes in policies over time.

Beyond the Economic Gaze: Childbearing During and After Recessions in the Nordic Countries.

During the 2010s, fertility rates fell across the Nordic region. The onset of these declines seems linked to the Great Recession of 2008-2009, but their continuation cannot easily be linked to subsequent economic change. The 1990s, too, brought episodes of economic crises to the Nordic region that were followed by different degrees of fertility decline.

Discovery of Potent, Selective, and Short-Acting Peptidic V Receptor Agonists.

The vasopressin analogue desmopressin (desamino-d-arginine vasopressin, dDAVP, 1) is a potent vasopressin 2 (V) receptor (VR) agonist approved in many countries for the treatment of diabetes insipidus, primary nocturnal enuresis, nocturia, and coagulation disorders. Since 1 is primarily excreted via the kidneys, an age-related decline in kidney function leads to slower elimination, prolonged antidiuresis, and hyponatremia. In search of novel, potent, selective, and short-acting peptidic VR agonists, we synthesized a series of C-terminally truncated analogues of [Val]dDAVP, 2, modified in positions 2, 3, and 7 and/or at the disulfide bridge.

Fathers' Use of Parental Leave and Union Dissolution.

With increasing union dissolution and changing gender behaviour, questions have emerged about possible links between gender equality and union stability. The aim of this article is to examine whether and how early fathers' involvement in child-rearing is associated with union dissolution in three Nordic countries. All three countries have reserved part of their parental leave to be used by one parent in order to promote fathers' engagement in child-rearing.
