[CMV associated acute liver failure in a patient receiving tocilizumab for systemic lupus erythematosus].

A 41-year-old female patient was admitted because of febrile jaundice and acute liver failure. The quick and the bilirubin were 21 % and 258 µmol/l, and there was hepatic encephalopathy I°. AST and AP had a maximum of 612 and 215 U/l.

Vasoactive Therapy in Systemic Sclerosis: Real-life Therapeutic Practice in More Than 3000 Patients.

Objective: Vasculopathy is a key factor in the pathophysiology of systemic sclerosis (SSc) and the main cause for Raynaud phenomenon (RP), digital ulcers (DU), and/or pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It is so far unknown how patients with SSc are treated with vasoactive agents in daily practice. To determine to which extent patients with SSc were treated with different vasoactive agents, we used data from the German Network for Systemic Scleroderma registry.

Ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis: serum levels of TNF-α and Its soluble receptors during the course of therapy with etanercept and infliximab.

The effects of the TNF- α blockers infliximab or etanercept on the levels of TNF- α , TNF-receptor 1 (TNF-R1), and TNF-receptor 2 (TNF-R2), as well as the levels of the inflammation markers CRP and IL-6, were measured in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients receiving treatment with either compound. We found that RA patients tend to have higher levels of TNF- α than both healthy individuals and AS patients prior to treatment (P < 0.05).

High prevalence of Pneumocystis jirovecii colonization among patients with autoimmune inflammatory diseases and corticosteroid therapy.

Background: Patients with autoimmune inflammatory diseases (AID) account for 13-36% of Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) cases in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative patients. Up to 88% of PCP cases in HIV-negative patients are associated with prior steroid treatment. Pulmonary colonization with Pneumocystis in HIV-negative patients is associated with corticosteroid therapy in up to 75% of cases.

The impact of HLA-DRB alleles on the subclass titres of antibodies against citrullinated peptides.

Objectives: The association between HLA-DR haplotypes and RA have been well established. However, the molecular mechanisms of how HLA mediates susceptibility and/or progression of the disease remain elusive. We therefore turned to the RA-specific antibodies directed against citrullinated peptide antigens (ACPAs) and investigated the association between HLA-DRB1 shared epitope (SE) alleles and the IgG subclass titres of cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP)- and mutated citrullinated vimentin (MCV)-specific antibodies.
