"No one will come and help me make my life": Ecological-transactional model approach to resilience among people with a history of childhood adversity.

Resilience refers to the ability to employ a collection of protective factors to return to or maintain positive mental health following an experience of disadvantage or adversity. Understanding why some children do well despite early adverse experiences is crucial because it can inform more effective policies and programs that help more children reach their full potential. This study aimed to explore and explain the development of resilience within an ecological-transactional framework.

Adaptation and feasibility of WHO PM+ for adolescents living with HIV in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa: an implementation feasibility study protocol.

Introduction: Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) are an extremely vulnerable population, with the burden of mental health problems carefully documented together with the constraints for receiving timely and adequate management of the problems, especially in rural settings. Problem Management Plus (PM+) is a scalable psychological intervention for individuals impaired by distress in communities exposed to adversity. Initially developed for adult populations, few studies have assessed its potential to address adolescent distress.

A qualitative study of coping strategies and resilience in the aftermath of childhood adversity in first-episode psychosis.

Aim: Exposure to adversity during childhood is associated with elevated risk for commonly occurring forms of psychopathology, especially psychotic disorders. Despite the noteworthy consequences associated with adverse childhood experiences, an inconsistent and unpredictable number of at-risk populations present with remarkably good physical and mental health outcomes that can be attributed to resilience. This study aimed to qualitatively explore the experience of childhood adverse events and coping strategies employed by individuals that promote resilience and better mental health outcomes.

Successful Shoulder Disarticulation under Local Anesthesia in the COVID-19 Era.

The use of the wide-awake local anesthesia no tourniquet, a tumescent local anesthetic technique in recent years, emerged as a powerful tool primarily in hand surgery. It has been adopted in many low- and middle-income countries where it was applied to an increasingly broad group of procedures. We report the case of an older patient with an arm liposarcoma for which surgery under general or regional anesthesia was deemed unsafe, but was successfully managed with a curative right shoulder disarticulation using tumescent local anesthesia.
