Article Synopsis
  • * High-grade invasive urothelial carcinoma can show various differentiation patterns, including glandular and small-cell types, and urothelial sarcomatoid carcinoma is often seen in advanced stages.
  • * Adenocarcinoma specifically refers to true glandular cancers of the bladder, and hybrid tumors are very rare, with no documented cases of metastatic adenocarcinoma spreading to the penis.

We introduce an approach for the temperature stabilization of nonlinear-optic crystals during laser frequency conversion processes. This approach is based on the stabilization of the piezoelectric resonance (PR) frequency of the crystal, so that the crystal itself becomes a temperature sensor. Application of an electronic oscillator provides a remarkably handy way to determine the PR frequency.

Despite routine vaccination, Israel experiences recurrent outbreaks of foot and mouth disease (FMD). We analyzed VP1 coding sequences of viruses isolated during FMD outbreaks from 2001 to 2011 in Israel and neighboring nations. The Israeli strains were aligned with strains from neighboring countries in corresponding years, implying repeated FMD virus incursions.

Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors are the first class of drugs to be approved by the FDA for the suppression of HIV-1 and are widely used for this purpose in combination with drugs of other classes. Despite the progress in HIV-1 treatment, there is still the need to develop novel efficient antivirals. Here the efficiency of HIV-1 inhibition by a set of original 5-substituted uridine nucleosides was studied.

Article Synopsis
  • New research explores how titanium dioxide (TiO) impacts palladium (Pd) catalysts in the oxidation of methane, focusing on their behavior in the presence of water (HO) and sulfur oxides (SO).
  • Various characterization techniques (like XRD and SEM) reveal changes in the catalyst with aging, including Pd-cluster growth and alterations in TiO phases, affecting their performance.
  • The modified catalyst shows improved resistance to sulfur compounds and operates under the Mars-van Krevelen mechanism; practical applications were tested using a two-dimensional model simulating industrial methane oxidation.
