We introduce an approach for the temperature stabilization of nonlinear-optic crystals during laser frequency conversion processes. This approach is based on the stabilization of the piezoelectric resonance (PR) frequency of the crystal, so that the crystal itself becomes a temperature sensor. Application of an electronic oscillator provides a remarkably handy way to determine the PR frequency.

We analyzed VP1 coding sequences of viruses isolated during FMD outbreaks from 2001 to 2011 in Israel and neighboring nations. The Israeli strains were aligned with strains from neighboring countries in corresponding years, implying repeated FMD virus incursions.

Despite the progress in HIV-1 treatment, there is still the need to develop novel efficient antivirals. Here the efficiency of HIV-1 inhibition by a set of original 5-substituted uridine nucleosides was studied.
