Background: Early life infections (ELIs), encompassing both viral and bacterial types, occur within the first six months of life. Influenced by genetic host factors and environmental conditions, the relationship between ELIs and subsequent allergic manifestations, particularly cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) and atopic dermatitis (AD), is complex and not fully understood.

Objective: The aim of the current study was to examine the potential interplay between nutrition, infections, and allergic manifestations in the first six months of life in infants with a family history of allergies, who were either exclusively breastfed (EBF) or fed a combination of breast milk and standard (SF) or partially hydrolyzed infant formula (pHF).

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on 'children in need' in Greece and their energy balance-related behaviors (EBRBs) related to overweight and obesity, highlighting a lack of existing literature at the European level.
  • Seven studies were reviewed, indicating prevalent unhealthy behaviors such as poor diet, inadequate sleep, and high sedentary activity among these children, influenced by factors like low parental education and socioeconomic status.
  • The findings aim to inform future research, interventions, and public health policies to better address the needs of this vulnerable population in Greece.

This study examined the efficacy of a probiotic in reducing depressive symptom severity in people with subthreshold depression. In a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial, a probiotic (1 × 10^9 live cells per strain: LF16 (DSM26956), LR06 (DSM21981), LP01 (LMG P-21021) and 04 (DSM23233)) or placebo was taken daily for 12 weeks. Data were collected at baseline, 6 and 12 weeks including psychological symptom severity (Beck Depression Inventory, BDI; Patient Health Questionnaire, PHQ; Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, HADS; and Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale, DASS).

Background: Common mental disorders often emerge during childhood and adolescence, and their prevalence is disproportionately elevated among those affected by obesity. Early life growth patterns may provide a useful target for primordial prevention; however, research is lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to identify distinct body mass index (BMI) trajectories during the first year of life and to assess their associations with psychosocial outcomes in preadolescence (9-13 years).

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare disorder characterised by varying nutritional phases that occur throughout the lifespan, ranging from failure to thrive to hyperphagia. If uncontrolled, the imbalance between energy intake and expenditure results in obesity development and increased morbidity and mortality risk. Although measures of energy requirements for accurate nutrition assessment are vital, the evidence appears sparse and heterogeneous; hence, the aim of this review was to examine the available literature on energy expenditure predicted or measured using various methods in individuals with PWS.
