Background: Death from noncompressible torso hemorrhage (NCTH) may be preventable with improved prehospital care and shorter in-hospital times to hemorrhage control. We hypothesized that shorter times to surgical intervention for hemorrhage control would decrease mortality in hypotensive patients with NCTH.

Methods: This was an AAST-sponsored multicenter, prospective analysis of hypotensive patients aged 15+ years who presented with NCTH from May 2018 to December 2020.

Warfarin is frequently used for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolism, yet it is associated with numerous drug interactions. Regarding over-the-counter pain medications, the preferred analgesic for those patients who are taking warfarin is acetaminophen. There are, however, reports of elevation in the international normalized ratio (INR) in those patients taking concurrent warfarin and acetaminophen.

Thirty-nine patients with uncomplicated gonorrhea were randomized to receive single, oral 50-, 100-, or 200-mg doses of trovafloxacin (CP-99,219), a new quinolone antibiotic. All 31 evaluable patients were cured of infection. Trovafloxacin was well tolerated.

The effect of an innovative educational technique using pocket-sized problem-solving cards on staff nurses' knowledge of the peritoneal dialysis cycler was examined. While there was no significant difference on knowledge scores between the experimental and control groups, a significant difference was found on pretest and posttest scores when the groups were combined.
