Background: Indigenous knowledge and responses were implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect health, showcasing how Indigenous communities participation in health systems could be a pathway to increase resilience to emergent hazards like climate change. This study aimed to inform efforts to enhance climate change resilience in a health context by: (1) examining if and how adaptation to climate change is taking place within health systems in the Peruvian Amazon, (2) understanding how Indigenous communities and leaders' responses to climatic hazards are being articulated within the official health system and (3) to provide recommendations to increase the climate change resilience of Amazon health systems.

Methods: This study was conducted among two Peruvian Amazon healthcare networks in Junin and Loreto regions.

Introns containing homing endonucleases are widespread in nature and have long been assumed to be selfish elements that provide no benefit to the host organism. These genetic elements are common in viruses, but whether they confer a selective advantage is unclear. In this work, we studied intron-encoded homing endonuclease gp210 in bacteriophage ΦPA3 and found that it contributes to viral competition by interfering with the replication of a coinfecting phage, ΦKZ.

Muscle isometric torque fluctuates according to time-of-day with such variation owed to the influence of circadian molecular clock genes. Satellite cells (SCs), the muscle stem cell population, also express molecular clock genes with several contractile-related genes oscillating in a diurnal pattern. Currently, limited evidence exists regarding the relationship between SCs and contractility, although long-term SC ablation alters muscle contractile function.

Introduction: Modern tissue engineering strategies have elucidated the potential of regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) as an alternative for treating mature teeth.

Methods: Here, we report two cases in which cell-based RET (CB-RET) using encapsulated allogeneic umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) in a platelet-poor plasma (PPP)-based scaffold was used in two mature teeth with pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis.

Results: After 5 years of follow-up, the healing response was satisfactory in both cases, with evidence of pulp revitalization.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic led to the collapse of the Peruvian health system, disrupting healthcare access for indigenous communities in the Amazon. Our study analysed how community health workers (CHWs) from indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon expanded their roles to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Fourteen CHWs from Loreto, Peru, participated in a community-based participatory research project using Photovoice, a technique encouraging vulnerable groups to take photos and develop stories illustrating their lived experiences.
