Objective: A new surfactant-based biomaterial containing the antimicrobial 1% silver sulfadiazine (SSD) was developed at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA) to improve outcomes for nonhealing wounds. This study's objective was to clinically test the wound care outcomes of the new surfactant-based antimicrobial wound dressing (SAWD) in a multicenter trial.
Methods And Materials: This cohort study enrolled 1036 patients with any nonhealing wound of > 3 months duration not responding to standard-of-care treatments from 10 wound care centers in 7 European countries.
A number of different instrument based examination methods are available for assessing the various phlebological disorders and planning therapeutic measures. These tools can help identify insufficient vein sections and evaluate functional outcomes. The most important analysis methods and their use, depending on the respective clinical stage of the illness, are represented.

This study was aimed at distinguishing between the effects of AN and nephropathy on haemoglobin and EPO levels in Type 2 diabetic patients at an early stage of diabetic nephropathy.
Methods: In 64 Type 2 diabetic patients (age 52 +/- 10 years, duration 10 +/- 9 years) without overt nephropathy and other causes of anaemia or EPO deficit, we assessed cardiovascular tests of AN, 24-h blood pressure (BP) monitoring, urinary albumin excretion rate (UAE), a full blood count, and serum EPO.
In type 2 diabetes, both insulin resistance and hyperglycemia are considered responsible for autonomic dysfunction, but the specific role of these two abnormalities is not clear. To test the specific role of insulin resistance on autonomic dysfunction, we studied 69 glucose-tolerant offspring of type 2 diabetic patients, comparing the most insulin-resistant tertile (IR) with the most insulin-sensitive tertile (IS) and comparable control subjects, all undergoing the oral glucose tolerance test, impedentiometry, 24-hour blood pressure and ECG monitoring, and an intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) followed by a euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp, with continuous blood pressure and ECG measurements. Sympathovagal balance was evaluated as low- to high-frequency ratio (LF:HF) by spectral analysis on R-R intervals.

Its physiological consequences include amenorrhea, estrogen deficiency and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis may develop as a consequence of a lack of estrogens, low calcium or vitamin D intake, hypercortisolemia or the duration of the illness.
