Comparison of two fall-risk assessment tools used in a long-term care facility.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to compare the ability of the Morse Fall Scale (MFS) and Farmer's fall-risk assessment tool (FFAT) to identify correlations between risk factors and falls among older adult long-term care (LTC) facility residents.

Design/methodology/approach: This was a correlational retrospective study. 200 medical records of older adults hospitalized in a LTC facility in central Israel, from January 2017 to January 2018, were examined.

Nutritional Status and Osteoporotic Fracture Rehabilitation Outcomes in Older Adults.

To determine the impact of nutritional status and risk factors for undernutrition based on the changes in functional outcomes and rehabilitation success, defined as the ability of older adults to return as close as possible to their original functional state. Retrospective cohort study among 107 rehabilitation patients, aged ≥65 y. Data included demographics, Functional Independence Measure (FIM), Short Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (SNAQ), reported weight, Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE), and Cumulative Illness Rating-Scale for Geriatrics (CIRS-G).

Gastrostomy Tube Placement by Radiological Methods for Older Patients Requiring Enteral Nutrition: Not to be Forgotten.

The use of gastrostomy tubes for long-term nutritional support in older patients is frequent. Percutaneous gastrostomy tube placement may be performed using various techniques, including endoscopic, surgical, and radiologically-guided methods. While percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) placement is the most widely used and accepted approach, experience with the use of percutaneous radiological gastrostomy (PRG) is more limited.

Pain Assessment and Management by Nurses in a Geriatric Setting: Discrepancies between Guidelines and Documented Practice.

Background: Pain is a common subjective symptom among older adults in general and among older adult residents in long-term geriatric facilities in particular. Pain diminishes older adults' quality of life and may impair their ability to recover from various illnesses. Therefore, the Israeli Ministry of Health has issued guidelines on effectively assessing and treating pain in this population.
