Fat, sugar, theobromine, and caffeine are important compounds in chocolates that influence the physico-chemical and sensory characteristics of the products. These parameters commonly are determined with conventional, time-consuming, environmentally pollutant methods. In this study, near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) coupled with partial least square regression (PLSR) was used to predict the quantity of these compounds.

Background: Adenosine-assisted transthoracic Doppler-derived coronary flow reserve (TDE-CFR) reflects coronary vascular function. The prognostic and incremental value of left anterior descending coronary artery TDE-CFR above myocardial perfusion scintigraphy in patients with suspected myocardial ischemia has not yet been studied.

Methods And Results: Three hundred seventy-one patients (mean age, 62.

In France, domestic waste production is estimated at c 350 kg year per person and landfilling still represents a predominant way of municipal solid waste management, with 39% of waste dumped in 2007. Waste characterization campaigns were conducted at different stages of a mechanical-biological treatment process in order to evaluate its efficiency. Waste samples were sorted by size (>100 mm, <100-20 mm and <20 mm) in order to assess the opportunity for mechanical and aerobic degradation and to reduce the volume of waste landfilled.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted on chronic total occlusions (CTO) in coronary arteries using data from the Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry (SCAAR) to investigate the prevalence and patient characteristics.
  • Out of over 215,000 patients, 16,818 had confirmed CTO, representing 10.9% of all angiographies; most were treated conservatively, with only 5.8% undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
  • The findings suggest that CTO is common yet under-treated in Sweden, highlighting the need for more research on optimal treatment strategies for this high-risk patient group.
