This paper presents an algebraic technique for detecting the symmetry axes of a perspectively projected plane curve. The procedure applies to implicit polynomials which has been fitted to 2D image data acquired by means of a photo camera or a TV set. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been demonstrated experimentally by using both synthetic and real images.

Personal experience, involving the choice of a type of anaesthesia based on the use of an analgesic (pentazocine), and the exclusion of halogenated anaesthetics in most cases, is reported. Stress is laid on the simplicity of the technique.

The authors have examined 1478 burned or scalded patients of the Plastic Surgery Institute of the University of Parma from 1967 to 1976; they have considered particularly 92 cases who showed more than 20% of burned skin. For these patients they have considered many data of medico-legal interest in order to facilitate the estimate of the personal damage in penal and civil law.
