Here, we combine optogenetics, single-cell live-imaging, and mathematical modeling to study how a zinc-finger repressor, Knirps, induces switch-like transitions into long-lived quiescent states.

Occupational benzene exposure and risk of head and neck cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Benzene, an aromatic hydrocarbon, is a well-known leukemogen. To date, the link between benzene exposure and solid cancers is under examination. Our objective is to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate if the occupational exposure to benzene is associated with the incidence and mortality of head and neck cancers (HNCs).

Diligent application and implementation of biosecurity measures stand as the most effective measures to prevent disease transmission through direct or indirect interactions between poultry and free-ranging animals. Among these, free-ranging mammals can be hosts or disseminators of several pathogens relevant to poultry and of public health concern. Moreover, evidence of susceptibility to avian influenza virus infection in non-human mammals has raised questions about their potential role in the virus' epidemiology at the domestic animal-wildlife interface.
