Behavioral flexibility, including an ability to modify feeding behavior, is a key trait enabling primates to survive in forest fragments. In human-dominated landscapes, unprotected forest fragments can become progressively degraded, and may be cleared entirely, challenging the capacity of primates to adjust to the changes. We examined responses of wild chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) to major habitat change: that is, clearance of forest fragments for agriculture.

Unlabelled: This paper summarizes the discussions and insights gained from the key themes that emerged during the Quality by Design (QbD) Workshop held at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) offices in London, UK, on 28-29 January 2014. Industry and regulators shared practical experiences from six case studies (five approved small molecule products and one phase 3 biotechnological product) based on QbD submissions by five companies (AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, NovoNordisk, and Pfizer). The case studies covered a range of different development, regulatory submission, and post-approval aspects of QbD and were developed through confidential discussions between the company representatives and regulators.

The biosensor is specific for L-glutamate and the peculiar analytical properties (linearity range, reproducibility, accuracy) were experimentally determined. Furthermore, the same basic biosensor was also modified to be used and characterized for the direct determination of L-glutamine.

The biosensor is composed of an amperometric H2O2 electrode and a biocatalytic membrane containing the enzyme glutamic acid oxidase (GAO). The biosensor allows the direct and continuous measurement of GA levels by monitoring the H2O2 produced at the electrode interface as a coproduct of the GAO-catalyzed GA oxidation to alpha-ketoglutaric acid.

The interactions between some of the most common calcium entry blocker drugs (CEB) and the enzyme carbonic anhydrase (CA) are studied in the present work by an electroanalytical approach. The study comprises drugs belonging to the classes of phenylalkylamines, dihydropyridines, benzothiazepines and piperazines. The evaluation of the potential inhibitory power towards CA was performed either by measuring the speed of CO2 diffusion taking place from a buffered solution of NaHCO3, or by monitoring the metabolic activity of yeast cells.
