Article Synopsis
  • Video-assisted thoracoscopy (VAT) is useful in assessing the pleural cavity after chest trauma, though its specific indications are still debated.
  • A study analyzed 923 trauma patients, examining the timing and eligibility criteria for VAT, revealing that early VAT (within 10 hours of injury) is safe and effective for diagnosing thoracic injuries.
  • Among the patients, VAT was mostly converted to video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for treatment, and only a small percentage experienced postoperative complications, highlighting the procedure's efficacy in trauma care.

Background: The treatment of lung cancer depends on histological and/or cytological evaluation of the mediastinal lymph nodes. Endobronchial ultrasound/transbronchial needle aspiration-biopsy (EBUS/TBNA-TBNB) is the only minimally invasive technique for a diagnostic exploration of the mediastinum. The aim of this study is to analyze the reliability of EBUS in the preoperative staging of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Background: International and national oncology societies had released recommendations in favor of COVID-19 vaccination in cancer patients. In the context of the national vaccination campaign targeting the so called extremely vulnerable, we aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of the mRNA vaccines in a cohort of 623 patients.

Methods: Between March 26 and April 04, 2021, the Pfizer and BioNTech BNT162b2 mRNA and the Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccines were given as a two-dose prime-boost regimen.

Background: Although positron emission tomography/computed tomography, often integrated with 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18] fluorine-D-glucose (18F-FDG-PET/CT), is fundamental in the assessment of lung cancer, the relationship between metabolic avidity of different histotypes and maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) has not yet been thoroughly investigated. The aim of the study is to establish a reliable correlation between Suvmax and histology in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), in order to facilitate patient management.

Methods: We retrospectively assessed the data about lung cancer patients entered in the Italian Registry of VATS Group from January 2014 to October 2019, after establishing the eligibility criteria of the study.

Clinically recognizable Gastrointestinal involvement (GI) occurs in less than 1.
