Mutations in MLC1 cause megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts (MLC), a rare form of leukodystrophy characterized by macrocephaly, epilepsy, spasticity, and slow mental deterioration. Genetic studies of MLC are lacking from many parts of the world, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. Genomic DNA was extracted for 67 leukodystrophic patients from 43 Sudanese families.

Patients And Methods: Patients harboring an imipenem-resistant A. baumannii strain were defined as case patients.
We report results of a computational investigation, based on density functional theory, of silicon self-assembled nano-ribbons (Si NRs) on Ag(110). These NRs present a honeycomb-like structure arched on the substrate and forming a closed-packed structure. The calculated STM images match the experimental ones, hinting to a possible new Si structure, mediated by the Ag substrate.

In this study, we evaluated antibiotic susceptibility and serogroups of strains isolated from bacteraemia, meningitis and acute otitis media in adults and children over the 1997-2003 period in Brittany, France. In 2003, 62% of the isolates were not susceptible to penicillin and 11% were fully resistant.
