Clinical pharmacy is a fast-growing discipline in Europe, ensuring optimisation and a guarantee of safety in therapeutic management. Within a hospital the intensive care unit (ICU) typically admits the most severely ill patients who require expensive medications. These patients may be at risk for potentially serious adverse events, especially when medication errors occur.

Contribution of hospital pharmacists to sustainable healthcare: a systematic review.

Background: With a global annual carbon footprint of the healthcare sector of 2 gigatons of COe, healthcare systems must contribute to the fight against climate change. Hospital pharmacists could be key players in ecological transition due to their role in managing healthcare products. The aim of this study was to summarise the evidence on interventions implemented in healthcare facilities involving pharmacists to improve the environmental footprint of healthcare.

Background: Adverse drug events (ADEs) are not only a safety and quality of care issue for patients, but also an economic issue with significant costs. Because they often occur during hospital stays, it is necessary to accurately quantify the costs of ADEs. This review aimed to investigate the methods to calculate these costs, and to characterize their nature.

Clinical impact of pharmaceutical consultations in patients treated for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial (BPCObs study).

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an irreversible chronic respiratory disease which outcome depends on medication adherence. Pharmacists may increase this adherence by advising patients on inhaler devices proper use. This paper presents the protocol for a randomized controlled trial, which assesses impact of pharmaceutical consultations on COPD exacerbations, medical care, adherence to inhaler devices and quality of life.
