An Optimized CT Protocol for Detecting Suspected Cauda Equina Syndrome: A Comparative Analysis with MRI.

Background And Purpose: Lumbar disc herniation, potentially leading to nerve root compression and cauda equina syndrome, is typically evaluated using MR imaging. However, the limited availability of MR imaging outside regular hours in certain health care systems poses considerable challenges. This purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of an optimized CT lumbar spine protocol as a potential alternative to MR imaging in assessing suspected neural compression.

Energy Metabolism, Metabolite, and Inflammatory Profiles in Human Ex Vivo Adipose Tissue Are Influenced by Obesity Status, Metabolic Dysfunction, and Treatment Regimes in Patients with Oesophageal Adenocarcinoma.

Oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC) is a poor prognosis cancer with limited response rates to current treatment modalities and has a strong link to obesity. To better elucidate the role of visceral adiposity in this disease state, a full metabolic profile combined with analysis of secreted pro-inflammatory cytokines, metabolites, and lipid profiles were assessed in human ex vivo adipose tissue explants from obese and non-obese OAC patients. These data were then related to extensive clinical data including obesity status, metabolic dysfunction, previous treatment exposure, and tumour regression grades.

The effect of COVID-19 on radiology postgraduate training in Ireland.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the healthcare provision, and while it has also had unprecedented effects on medical education and training, the extent has not been fully evaluated.

Aims: We wished to assess the effects of COVID-19 on postgraduate radiology training, and due to the structure of postgraduate radiology training in Ireland, this setting allows for the surveying of an entire national cohort of trainees due to the relatively small national population and centralised national training body.

Methods: A 70-question survey, covering 11 areas of the training experience, was devised.

Claw sign of brachial plexopathy on F-FDG PET/CT in neurolymphomatosis following successful treatment of lymphoma.

Neurolymphomatosis is a rare neurological manifestation associated with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Here we present a case of brachial plexus neurolymphomatosis in a patient with relapsed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma exquisitely demonstrated on F-FDG PET/CT. It highlights the characteristic imaging features and importance of multimodality imaging in diagnosing neurolymphomatosis.
