Article Synopsis
  • * Studies show that coherence, or the logical connection between ideas, is vital for readers with limited background knowledge, as these readers struggle to infer implicit connections.
  • * Research finds a strong link between reader comprehension and automated measures of text coherence, indicating that improving text comprehensibility enhances reader understanding, especially in biomedical contexts.

Nontargeted screening (NTS) utilizing liquid chromatography electrospray ionization high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC/ESI/HRMS) is increasingly used to identify environmental contaminants. Major differences in the ionization efficiency of compounds in ESI/HRMS result in widely varying responses and complicate quantitative analysis. Despite an increasing number of methods for quantification without authentic standards in NTS, the approaches are evaluated on limited and diverse data sets with varying chemical coverage collected on different instruments, complicating an unbiased comparison.

The diversity of O-polysaccharides (O-antigens) among 28 strains isolated from ill fish has been determined by using high-resolution magic angle spinning (HR MAS) NMR spectroscopy. The new O-polysaccharide has been identified in two isolates. This new structure was investigated by H and C NMR spectroscopy and matrix-assisted laser-desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS).

Critical to producing accessible content is an understanding of what characteristics affect understanding and comprehension. To answer this question, we are producing a large corpus of health-related texts with associated questions that can be read or listened to by study participants to measure the difficulty of the underlying content, which can later be used to better understand text difficulty and user comprehension. In this paper, we examine methods for automatically generating multiple-choice questions using Google's related questions and ChatGPT.
