Thiazolidin-4-one fused pyrimidines, [1,5]-benzodiazepines and their oxygen substituted hydroxylamine derivatives have been screened for antibacterial, antifungal and antimalarial activity. Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and Salmonella typhi were used for antibacterial screening. Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans were used for antifungal screening and Plasmodium species were used for antimalarial screening.

Condensation of 4a-g with omega-bromoalkoxyphthalimides 5a-b afforded the titled compounds 6a-n, some of which exhibited significant antimalarial as well as antimicrobial activity.

Several methods of myofibrillar ATPase were used including different pre-incubation treatments. Myofibrillar ATPases were also measured biochemically and the pH profile of the activity was compared with the histochemical staining following pre-incubation at different pH.
